Review by Hans J. Wollstein

Like her predecessor Laurette Taylor, Marion Davies was almost ludicrously old to play the mischievous Irish colleen in this Cinderella tale but, unlike Taylor, she made up for the lack of verisimilitude with her great talent for mimicry. In fact, it is almost as if Davies is parodying someone else as the spunky Peg, who inherits 2 million pounds only to decide that being rich is not all it is cracked up to be. Although Davies' impersonation goes a long way, it is still not quite enough. The film becomes rather grating when Peg begins to moon over handsome barrister Onslow Stevens. The fault is not with Davies, who gamely does her best at all times and against insurmountable odds, but with her producers (William Randolph Hearst in particular), who should have found a more appropriate vehicle for this most worthwhile of screen comedians.
