Synopsis by Rose of Sharon Winter

This video production is an entertaining portrait of the famed Italian tenor Luciano Pavarotti, whose thrilling lyrical voice has transcended the world of opera and entered the mainstream popular idiom. Pavarotti, born in 1935, made his operatic debut as Rodolfo in Puccini's La Boheme in 1961 and was soon catapulted to international stardom. He continues to perform in operatic venues all over the world, as well as in film and television appearances. Nimble on stage despite his girth, Pavarotti is a master of drama as well as music. This film reveals many personal aspects of the life of the man behind the voice. Rare footage of concert performances is included. The program features Pavarotti singing "Ave Maria," "O Sole Mio," "Quanta E'Bella," "Va Pensiero," and other favorites.
