Part travelogue, part hoary South Seas melodrama, Paradise Isle: A Romance of the South Seas benefits from beautiful second-unit photography reportedly taken on the island of Samoa. Unfortunately, once the story gets going, the scenery turns into a typical Poverty Row studio green set and you are left instead with some really bad writing and an amateurish cast. Originally sold on its miscegenation theme of "forbidden love" between a white boy and a Polynesian girl, Paradise Isle failed somewhat to deliver the goods, hence a title-change to the more titillating Siren of the South Seas. The only problem is that Movita is hardly a "siren" and remains a good girl for the duration.
