Synopsis by Andrea LeVasseur

Stéphan Oriach's production company Myriapodus Films presents the independent documentary Orlan - Carnal Art, a portrait of the hardcore French artist Orlan. Using her own body as a medium, Orlan is the creator and leader of the carnal art movement, which seeks to put surgical body modification in the realm of public debate. Since 1991, she has been staging her surgeries as performance art and purposefully altering her own body based on classical Western images of beauty and her own imagination. Oriach's film presents the evolution of Orlan over several performances/operations, along with some news footage and interview segments. Orlan - Carnal Art was screened at the 2003 Cannes Film Festival.
