Review by Jeremy Wheeler

The idea behind Noise is a good one, though this indie pic is far from a home run of a thriller. It's a bit hard to sympathize with an unlikable main character, but it's even worse when the character is played by Trish Goff. The Victoria's Secret model comes off so pretentious and stuck up that you actually begin to root for Ally Sheedy to torture her out of existence. Sure, not every character study needs to have a pleasant protagonist (in fact, they almost work better if they don't), but this is ridiculous! As the story unfolds and the main character falls into more and more personal chaos, it's not uncommon to feel absolutely nothing for the Joan Jett-wannabe at the center of it all. By the time the climax stumbles around, it's pretty clear who was driven insane -- you, the audience! Fine direction by Tony Spiridakis makes things a bit less daunting, though he should have spent a bit more time in the casting chair than behind the lens.
