Synopsis by Dan Pavlides
A small town in Lithuania is divided as the communists battle those in favor of national independence in this post-World War II action drama. When the leader of the village is killed, the man's four sons set out to avenge his death. Celebrated director Vitautas Zalakevicius begins and ends the award-winning feature with the scene of a Madonna nailed to a pine tree.
