Review by Jeremy Wheeler

This Sci-Fi Channel original film is a highly forgettable sword-and-sorcery adventure tale, despite a strong first act that sets it up to be bigger than the boring schlockfest that it eventually morphs into. Opening with a strong narration that expertly introduces the film's mythology, this little low-budgeter actually seems to be working on another playing field than say, most of the channel's über-stupid Nu Image productions. Sadly, though the appearances by both Rutger Hauer and Tony Todd are inspired, by the time the flick settles into the stagnant Minotaur's lair, the whole thing grinds to a halt and loses all forward momentum. The title monster itself is a mixture of mid-grade CG and low-grade puppet work, often utilizing easy-to-spot wires and loose rubbery flesh that translates into one word -- cheap. Not surprisingly, the Minotaur is neither scary nor impressive, which sums up the film in a nutshell.
