Synopsis by Mark Deming

Filmmakers Stephanie Skourtes and Brian Ganter offer a visually rich portrait of six diverse characters over the course of a seemingly ordinary day in this mixture of fact and fiction. Metropole takes place during twenty-four hours in Seattle, Washington, and without dialogue or narration allows us to follow six people with no obvious connection as they go about their business amidst the backdrop of the city, from gleaming skyscrapers to run-down corner bars. As the people go from home to work to their individual pursuits in the evening, the camera is a roving observer, tracing their paths and permitting us to spy on their activities while painting a picture of life in one of America's most fascinating cities. Metropole was an official selection at the 2008 London International Documentary Festival.
