Written and directed by Kate Tsang, this coming-of-age tale follows rebellious thirteen-year-old Sammy (Miya Cech), who’s acting out as a way to deal with her mother’s death. She feels alienated at home as her younger sister seems to be okay while immersed in her video games while their father is getting serious with another woman in his life. As punishment for her latest troubles, Sammy’s father signs her up in a community college class, where she encounters a quirky old lady magician named Margot (Rhea Perlman), who shows her how life could still spark magic to balance out dark moments.
