Synopsis by Mark Deming

Family loyalty leads a man into a place of danger and confusion in the drama from South African filmmaker Akin Omotoso. Ade (Hakeem Kae-Kazim) was born and raised in Nigeria, but left the country in search of a better life and is now enjoying a successful career in banking. However, his brother Femi (Fabian Adeoye Lojede) hasn't been so lucky; a longtime political activist, Femi ran afoul of the law and after a stretch in prison he fled Nigeria for South Africa. Since then, Femi has been living hand-to-mouth on the streets of Johannesburg, and in time Ade gets word that his brother has vanished. Ade and Femi have long had a contentious relationship, but with no one else to help him, Ade travels to Johannesburg in hopes of finding Femi. But tracking down his brother is no easy task, and the longer Ade searches the back alleys for Femi, the more his journey turns into a surreal nightmare. Man On Ground received its North American premiere at the 2011 Toronto International Film Festival.
