Synopsis by Hal Erickson

Malambo is based on a venerable legend, indigenous to the hills of Argentina. Gathered around a campfire, a group of woodcutters relate the story of how an evil "Man From the South" systematically cut down all the trees and rendered the territory barren and dry. The rest of the story concerns the horrible fate of the villain, as executed by the courageous Malambo (Oscar Valicelli). The film's depiction of the ongoing struggle against the lumberman and the land despoilers has a timely quality, especially in the light of the recent denuding of the South American rain forests and the ecologically disastrous results. Ample romantic relief is provided by the stunningly beautiful Delia Garces.
