Review by Hans J. Wollstein

Had Maid's Night Out been played by, say, Carole Lombard and Cary Grant, this screwball comedy may have had something. Unfortunately, RKO could only afford Joan Fontaine and Allan Lane, both still in their formative years, and the result is sluggish at best. Although fans of B-Westerns fan may enjoy seeing the latter prior to saddling up and becoming Allan "Rocky" Lane, the only true fun here is provided by a good supporting cast that includes hatchet-faced Hilda Vaughn as a nosy maid, Lee Patrick as a love-starved milk customer and fey William Brisbane as, well, the fey Other Man. Vicki Lester, an RKO starlet who took her moniker from the lead character in A Star Is Born, plays Lane's society cousin.
