Synopsis by Clarke Fountain
In this largely French-language documentary, the genesis of North American (Canadian and U.S.) ideas of the devil is explored. Among those interviewed are rural priests and learned scholars in the U.S. and Canada. Some allege that the purpose of this frightful figure is "to control sex," others assert that the personification of ultimate evil is a completely man-made invention. Meanwhile, the devil is blamed for both natural and man-made disasters by less skeptical persons.
