Three lost and confused people play out the drama of their lives on a devastated landscape in this experimental feature from South Korean auteur Roh Gyeong-tae. Ji-young (Kim Sun-young) is a struggling artist who lives in a shantytown on a parcel of polluted land that will soon become a new housing development. While Ji-young is a woman, she believes in her heart that she was meant to be male, and wears men's suits that camouflage her womanly figure. During a vacation in the Philippines, Ji-young meets Rain (Phuong Thi Bich), a young woman who has led a sheltered life; Rain marries her, but it isn't until they return to Ji-young's makeshift home that she realizes her new spouse isn't a man. Living near Ji-young and Rain is Loi-Tan (Jung Du-won), a young man suffering from depression who can't hold down a job. Loi-Tan has come to believe that he isn't really Korean, but was abandoned by Filipino parents as a child, and he's certain Rain can help reunite him with his biological family. Heosuabideuleui ddang (aka Land of Scarecrows) was an official selection at the 2008 Pusan International Film Festival.
