Synopsis by Olivia Cantor
Directed by Shoja Azari and Shirin Neshat, this political satire follows Simin (Sheila Vand), an Iranian American working for a government agency called the Census Bureau. Her task is to interview people to record their dreams. Unknown to her, the agency’s real purpose is to find new ways to control citizens. To deal with her own past trauma, Simin does social media impersonations in Farsi of her American interviewees. Soon, she meets more quirky characters and finds herself in strange situations. Such things would lead her to question what it means to be free in America.
