Review by Jeremy Wheeler

Now this is more like it -- after the tepid monotony of the second film, Kickboxer 3: The Art of War takes the action back to the ring and dishes it to the audience like a coal-burning locomotive on fire. Plenty of fights populate this sucker, as the series' returning kickboxer David Sloan (Sasha Mitchell) and mentor Xian (Dennis Chan) invade the steamy streets of Brazil for high-kicking fights and goofy banter. This time, there's no fooling around with drawn-out plots or misguided drama, because Kickboxer 3 is all about cheap and stupid action that rarely stops to catch its breath. This flick also marks the first time that guns are amply used in the flick, thereby upping the masculine nature of the product even more. The movie's stats are something to behold as well, with not one but two guys crashing through windows within a minute of each other, as well as one scene of Playgirl bliss that finds Sasha naked underneath a waterfall for no explained reason whatsoever. When it comes down to it, there really isn't that much that's special about this series, yet this third entry remains breezy and fun without echoing the usual been-there, done-that attitude of many other similar straight-to-video flicks of that time.
