A dead franchise returns in I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer, a belated continuation that moves the killer proceedings from the coast to Colorado of all places, where amazingly, the fisherman returns to wreak uninspired mayhem on cookie-cutter twits once again. This time, the previous leads are nowhere to be seen, replaced instead by a no-name cast that refer to the killer as a myth in the opening minutes and spend the rest of their time text messaging and talking on bluetooth-powered headsets. This straight-to-DVD shocker has a way of casually rolling over the viewer, delivering the plot and its thrills in a perfectly predictable fashion that screams of been-there-done-that scripting -- that is, until the end. The twist will not be ruined here, but needless to say, the filmmakers have concocted a way to move the series into a whole new territory that is rather delicious in its stupidity and exactly what is needed for such an unnecessary third outing. If the I Know... franchise was respected at all in the horror world (outside of just the second film), then no doubt there would be some kind of backlash, but at this point, who cares? This sucker might be a big turd all the way up until the 1:19 mark, but the fact that the flick went where it did for seemingly no good reason other than to mess with the audience and set up future installments -- well, why not? Anything is better than the "Old Man Higgins" Scooby-Doo endings that were tacked onto the previous films.
