A delightful little comedy oater, Gun Play benefits immeasurably from engaging performances by its stars. The personable Guinn "Big Boy" Williams is given ample opposition this time by the always watchable Tom London, and Marion Shilling was simply one of the top leading ladies for this sort of thing. Alas, Gun Play was destined to be Big Boy's final starring vehicle. The actor, who had starred in several ultra low-budget (and ultra obscure) silent oaters, would find a natural niche as a supporting player, usually cast as brawn without brains. Unfairly forgotten, Gun Play was briefly seen on television in the 1950s under the more descriptive title Lucky Boots.
