Synopsis by Michael Hastings
A young man realizes his father may not have been the man he thought in this Russian-Kazakhstan production, which screened out-of-competition at the 2000 Berlin Film Festival. The film's title character (Farkhat Abdraimov) leads a life of happy oblivion as a restaurant manager until the day his father is murdered, triggering a deeper investigation of his family friends and connections. Some of Fara's revelations center around his bouts with illness as a child -- which were remedied thanks to his father's sketchy connections.
