Review by Buzz McClain

Anyone taking this silly saga seriously for even a moment isn't paying attention. It's a comedy, OK? Lame as it is, the ridiculously clichéd scenes are being played for laughs. The writer and the director have no intention of scaring anyone, so they don't even try to ratchet up the tension. It's just too bad none of it is funny. The bats -- nearly all of them rendered by computer imaging -- are pretty bad, too. Their fakey fluttering just isn't very menacing. The only thing going for this farce is actress Tracy Nelson, who clearly gets the joke and turns in another strong performance despite tepid material. Whip Hubley and Corbin Bernsen try to sustain interest, but succumb to a script that refuses to yield a punch line. The PG-13 rating seems harsh for a film with very little gore or tension and no sex.
