Synopsis by Hal Erickson
The title may have meant little to English-speaking audience, but El Gran Amour de Becquer meant a great deal to Latin filmgoers. The titular Becquer was one of Spain's greatest poets, as renowned for his amorous pursuits as for his writings. Esteban Serrador plays Becquer in this Argentine production, fulfilling both the romantic and artistic requirements of the role. Standing out among Becquer's "amours" is Delia Garces as the one great love of his life. A bit hit in South America and Spain, El Gran Amour de Becquer was a bit too primitive-looking for North American tastes.
