Review by Hans J. Wollstein

In an effort to compete with Republic Pictures, Monogram added former singing cowboy Smith Ballew to a couple of Johnny Mack Brown Westerns, including Drifting Along, in which the hayseed tenor warbles Louis Herschler and house composer Edward Kay's "Driftin'" while a dubbed Mack Brown "performs" the traditional "Dusty Trails" and a few other selections backed up by Curt Barrett and the Trailsmen and an aggregation calling itself the Hollywood Exhibition Square Dancers. The music making did little for the series, however, and Monogram later limited their country & western efforts to the more appropriate Jimmy Wakely series.
