It's only appropriate that the little seen kung-fu classic Dragon Force should begin with a piece of music that is a direct rip off of Ennio Morricone's classic Western film scores. The film has a tough as nails dramatic attitude as well as surprisingly intriguing characters and a plot that would not be out of place in any of the Sergio Leone/Clint Eastwood Westerns. Where the film takes a thrilling dramatic right turn about 20 minutes into the movie during the first major action scene. It features the lean and mean Bruce Lee look alike, Musung Kwak, giving a royal bloody beat down to a crowd of thugs all set to an extremely funky soul soundtrack. Many viewers will see a possible influence this scene had on the final battle in Quentin Tarantino's ode to chop sockey cinema Kill Bill Vol. 1. All of the film's many kung fu sequences are impressive without ever feeling forced or overly choreographed as so many films in the genre often do. Director Key Nam Nam leads the whole blood-soaked story down to an outrageous, electrifying ten-minute battle scene that truly has to be seen to be believed. Mean, violent, and set to a soulful beat, Dragon Force is a hidden kung-fu classic that deserves to be found.
