Synopsis by Nathan Southern
Famed tenor Jose Carreras and Italian soprano Katia Ricciarelli co-headline this stage production of Donizetti's heavily-revived opera Lucia di Lammermoor, as Edgardo and Lucia. The by-now-familiar story, adapted from Sir Walter Scott's period tragedy The Bride of Lammermoor, tells of the ill-fated love between Lucia, young daughter of the Lammermoors, inheritors of the Ravenswood home, and Edgardo, the head of the Ravenswood clan, who is ousted from the family estate and forced to live in seclusion on the Wolf's Crag. Baritone Leo Nucci co-stars and Lamberto Gardelli conducts the performance, staged and filmed in 1982.
