The History Channel's A Distant Shore: African Americans of D-Day follows the frequently ignored stories of segregated soldiers who participated in World War II's 1944 Invasion of Normandy. Produced and directed by Douglas Cohen for Flight 33 Productions, this hour-long documentary includes interviews with veterans from Barrage Balloon Battalions and the Coast Guard and historian Yvonne Latty. This film won an Emmy in 2008 for Outstanding Historical Programming, long form.
