While this offering has many of the negative trappings of other indie urban gangsta sagas -- bad hip-hop soundtrack, amateurish production values -- there are a couple of things that make it a rainy day guilty pleasure, not the least of which is larger-than-life Ryan Combs' hilarious performance as trash-talking detective McCord. Clearly a vanity production to show off Combs' obvious talents as an actor -- his directing, hard as he has worked, is only passable -- Dirty Kopz comes off more as a parody than an homage to its obvious influence, Reservoir Dogs. Amazingly, it works, thanks in part to a certain earthy charm and a "nothing to lose" attitude. The final reel, in which the psychic comes into play, is nicely stylized and splendidly off kilter. Dirty Kopz is not for everyone, but urban adventure fans will appreciate the extra value Combs offers. Stay tuned for the behind-the-scenes home videos after the credits.
