Synopsis by Sandra Brennan

Grieving over the death of his son, a blind and superstitious Sri Lankan brickmaker causes family conflict when he refuses to accept government compensation for his loss. Wannihami's son Bandara had been in the island country's military fighting Tamil guerillas when he stepped on a land mine. His remains were brought back to his father's village and buried. Sadly, Bandara's sister Sunanda continues to receive letters from him. The trouble comes when Sunanda and Wannihami learn that the government is about to send them 10,000 rupees, a veritable fortune, as compensation. Sunanda's crafty husband can hardly wait, for he plans to use the money to complete the house he began and start a new, better life. As Sunanda struggles and argues with the stubborn Wannihami, more information about the characters and their backgrounds manifests itself. Death on a Full Moon Day played at South Korea's 1998 Pusan Film Festival and at the 1998 Montreal Film Festival.
