With the former Wolf Man (Lon Chaney Jr.) and Universal's Paula, the Ape Woman (Acquanetta) heading the cast, Dead Man's Eyes has often been lumped in with the studio's monster movies. Nothing could be farther from the truth. Instead, this little melodrama is a rather elementary whodunit acted by a visibly tired cast of studio regulars. Low-budget specialist Reginald LeBorg could and would create the odd sleeper, but this isn't one of them. The "Inner Sanctum" series, six films in all, was a mixed bag and Dead Man's Eyes belongs squarely in the middle.
