Synopsis by Mark Deming
Experimental filmmaker John Porter offers an unusual self-portrait with this witty short subject. Shot on Super-8 film stock, Christmas Toy Lights Me presents a pixilated image of Porter as he's lit by the glow of miniature model of a Christmas village. The film was shot using time-lapse photography over the space of twelve hours (the final product runs a fast three minutes) and was filmed a mere three days before its premiere screening at the 2006 University of Toronto Film and Video Festival. A variant edition of the film exists, as Porter shot the film using two identical cameras mounted on side-by-side tripods.
