Review by Robert Firsching

Like Nekromantik and The Wedding Jar, Marijan Vajda's Mosquito der Schaender takes the viewer into some pretty strange psycho-sexual territory, and is filled with repulsive imagery (eyeballs in glass jars and such). Unlike those films, however, Bloodlust doesn't contain any added elements of allegory or much in the way of meaning, so it becomes solely an exercise in gruesome visuals, which -- owing to the poor special effects -- doesn't do much for it either. At best, Bloodlust serves the purpose of giving gore-happy adolescents something to answer the question, "Wanna see something really gross?" It still has much to alarm horror novices, but hardened genre devotees are likely to recognize the boring loser hiding behind the shock trappings.
