Review by Craig Butler

If you're in the mood for a turgid, ridiculous soap opera, then Bad for Each Other is just the ticket. An atrocious film, Bad doesn't even have the good sense to be an enjoyably ridiculous film. This isn't the kind of picture that one can have a good time laughing at; it's the kind of picture that makes one feel either actively annoyed or intensely bored. Watching it from start to finish is tedious; it's also a waste, because it's a sure thing that you can guess every single thing that's going to happen -- and can come close to predicting the exact words that are going to come out of the characters' mouths long in advance. Actually, "characters' mouths" isn't exactly accurate, as the film is woefully lacking in characters and is instead chockfull of types, with an occasional mouthpiece thrown in to hammer home a few incredibly obvious points. In this trite mélange of bad writing and inept direction, it's hard to imagine any good performances, but Mildred Dunnock actually manages to deliver one, and Ray Collins and a couple of others are passable. But Charlton Heston is tiresomely bombastic and Lizabeth Scott is tiredly lost, and their performances are in no way acceptable.
