In 2016, just days before Team USA bagged multiple medals at the 2016 Rio Olympics, the Indianapolis Star ran a report on the alleged systemic sexual abuse that has taken a hold of gymnastics in America. Athlete A is a documentary that follows the investigations the journalists did in order to bring this case forward. Through interviews with athletes that have experienced the abuse first hand, such as Maggie Nichols, the film tells the story of the dedicated female gymnasts who fell victim to the men they thought were there for them.
