Synopsis by Augustine Chay

After their flight is canceled by the 9/11 attacks, strangers Elliott (Joe Purdy) and Joni (Amber Rubarth) find themselves on a road trip together from L.A. to New York in a rusty 1972 Chevy van. Joni rekindles Elliott’s passion for old folk songs during the journey, allowing the duo to tap into the therapeutic and uplifting power of the American folk tradition. They inspire and heal the people they meet along the way, who are all reeling from the news of the national tragedy. American Folk was directed by David Heinz, and features two veteran indie singer-songwriters in its leading roles.
