Review by Jason Gibner

Painful to watch, carelessly made, and overflowing with laughably wooden performances, director Peter Hyams has created a true disaster with his film adaptation the Ray Bradbury story A Sound of Thunder. This is a film that has huge intentions and tries to capture any kind of movie magic it can, yet in the end only shows a shocking disregard for everything that makes sci-fi action flicks like this so much fun. Sinking the entire project right away is the overdone and ridiculously cheese-covered special effects. From dreadful-looking digital monkey-dinosaurs and flying bats to some atrocious futuristic cityscapes, this is a textbook example of how nonstop putrid CGI can cause a movie to come to a grinding halt. The film's only bright spot comes from an over-the-top performance from Ben Kingsley as the idiot president of a time-travel safari company. Sporting a deep tan and a goofy electric-white fright wig, Kingsley hops around the set and constantly hams it up as if he was the only person involved in the film who was in on the joke. Lead actor Edward Burns grunts and frowns his way through the hero role and comes off seeming like he would rather be somewhere else than making this train wreck. Not even enjoyable for lovers of trash B-sci-fi cinema, A Sound of Thunder is one that deserves to be never heard from again.
