Synopsis by Eleanor Mannikka

In this uneven melodrama about forbidden romance, divorce, and political issues, the main focus is on the dilemma of a young actress. Although her husband is in love with her and happy with their marriage, she no longer reciprocates his feelings and wants out. He is not willing to just acquiesce and the pending divorce looms as a large issue. In the meantime, background stories are brought into the plot. These tales are about the shame of a widow whose past indiscretion is revealed, and somewhat incongruously, about the problems in the joint Japanese-American security pact.
