American filmmaker Tom Holland started his career as an actor before moving to writing screenplays. As a director, he has become noted for creating commercially successful films that add a lively modern spin to very traditional plot devices. He made his feature film debut as a director and screenwriter with Fright Night in 1988. More of an homage than a send-up of old low-budget vampire thrillers, it has gained a following. He continued to make low budget horror movies and thrillers throughout the next two decades, including The Langoliers (1995) and Thinner (1996), both of which are based on novels from Stephen King. In 2011 he wrote the screenplay for director Craig Gillepsie's remake of Fright Night.
