Synopsis by Nathan Southern
Heinz Spoerli has received widespread critical laudations for the ballets he has choreographed to compositions by J.S. Bach, most notably his adaptation of the composer's Goldberg Variations. In the home video release Bach: Cello Suites, choreographer Spoerli creates a three-segment ballet interpretation of Bach's Cello Suites, with each episode choreographed to one of the suites. The Zurich Ballet performs the work, while The Zurich Opera Orchestra, as conducted by Claudius Herrmann, provides musical accompaniment.
