Famous Italian artist Gabriele da Poppi (Franco Nero) underestimates the effect that the Sack of Rome will have on him personally until the German invaders brutally murder his lover/model Gesuina (Vittorio Belvedere), and their ruthless leader commands the artist to paint his portrait.
