Synopsis by Dan Pavlides
This opera by Albert Lortzing follows Peter The Great of Russia as he takes a job as a common laborer in a Dutch shipyard. His co-workers are unaware of his identity, but he is besieged by diplomats trying to make a deal with the Russian leader. Peter plays Cupid when he unites a bashful carpenter with a pretty girl and rewards them with an estate after their marriage. Color process is not credited.
