Synopsis by Clarke Fountain
The staff at a big, fancy European restaurant have a hierarchy and social order every bit as subtle and complex as can be found in the most convoluted military organization. In this Polish film, based on the 1936 novel by former waiter Henryk Worcell, Roman Borcyczko (Marek Kondrat) survives the lengthy period of hazing and initiatory trials to become accepted as a waiter. When he finally makes it to his goal, he quits; the indignities have ultimately been too much to endure.
