Synopsis by Mark Deming

Filmmaker E. J-Yong takes a witty look at ego, celebrity and the dividing line between an actor's public image and the person that lurks inside in this mockumentary comedy. The editor of a leading Korean fashion magazine gets a idea for their special end of the year issue -- how about getting six of the country's best known and most beautiful actresses together for a photo shoot? While everyone warns the editor that putting these women in one room is bound to cause problems, the plan is put in motion, and Ko Hyun-jung, Choi Ji-woo, Lee Mi-suk, Kim Min-hee, Kim Ok-vin and Yoon Yuh-jung (all playing themselves) are booked to appear at a photo studio on the same afternoon. It doesn't take long for drama to become the order of the day, as the women and their minders argue about who should arrive when, who gets which gown, and how they're to be presented in the photos. After several hours of diva behavior, at least one of the actresses is ready to storm out when it's discovered a snowstorm has hit the neighborhood and they're temporarily stranded. As they wait out the storm, the actresses sit down for a meal, and over dinner and tea they let their guards down and talk about the demands of stardom, their careers and their craft. Yeobaewoodle (aka The Actresses) was an official selection at the 2010 Berlin International Film Festival.
