The American popularity of the Akira Kurosawa films made it possible for a few lesser Japanese productions to get U.S. bookings. Yassa Mossa (Confusion) was intended as the first in a trilogy about the Japanese children of Occidental parents. Director Minoro Shibuya's attention is divided between two contrasting types. A socially conscious female orphanage director (Chikage Awashima) sets her cap for an ostensibly wealthy Canadian (Bob Booth), while Yokohoma prostitute (Mayumi Kurata) shakes down -- then falls in love with -- a black American GI (Danny Williams). The film was based on a series of magazine articles by Bunruko Shishi.
