Synopsis by Cecilia Cygnar

In this episode of the History Channel series Wrath of God, which explores different natural disasters through the ages, there is a look at flash flooding and the huge amount of death and destruction they can cause. Focusing on two cases of flash flooding in American history, the first looks at a flood in 1903, when water claimed the lives of almost half of the residents in Heppner, OR. One of the major reasons so many people were killed was that all of the flooding in this case took place in less than one hour. Over seven decades later, 140 people died in Big Thompson Canyon, CO, when the river water rose and overtook the city. There are interviews with survivors who talk about how fast and furious the water rose around the town and inside their own homes. There are also talks with scientists who discuss the reasons for flash flooding and engineers who are working to create ways of preventing these types of floods from happening so fast.
