Synopsis by Cecilia Cygnar

In this episode of the History Channel series Wrath of God, which explores different natural disasters through the ages, there is a look at the snowstorm that paralyzed the city of Buffalo, NY. Usually able to handle heavy snow, Buffalo had more than its usual share of snow in 1977, when the city had a record-breaking snowfall. President Jimmy Carter declared nine counties of New York a federal disaster area, the first time this ever had to be done because of snow. People were stranded from their homes and their cars were buried. Others were stuck in their home, unable to get outside for days. Eventually, emergency crews were able to dig the city out, but it did not happen over night. For a city that knows how to deal with a blizzard, the storm of 1977 topped Buffalo's worst nightmares.
