Synopsis by Cecilia Cygnar

This series from the History Channel explores some of the most dangerous and deadly natural disasters of all time, including this episode on tsunamis, which have been the cause of more deaths than hurricanes since World War II. As opposed to the advanced warning of hurricanes, tsunamis sneak up on the land, very often without any warning at all. Undersea earthquakes cause tsunamis and even with all of the modern advancements in technology, predicting these sea earthquakes is far from an exact science. This program takes a look at the damage and destruction of tsunamis that hit Hawaii in 1946 and 1960, where hundreds of people were killed. Some of the survivors of these events talk about their experiences and about the shocking, sudden power of these forces of nature.
