Synopsis by Cecilia Cygnar

In this episode of the History Channel series Wrath of God, which explores different natural disasters through the ages, there is a look at the series of explosions that plagued Texas City in 1944. While a cargo ship was being loaded with ammonium nitrate, a fire began which forced the nitrate to explode. The explosion sent the steel of the huge ship flying through the air, traveling hundreds of miles and destroying everything in its path. The explosions and series of fires caused by the flying debris damaged hundreds of miles of property and killed 567 people. Eyewitness accounts of survivors who experienced this catastrophe are shown, including interviews with emergency workers who were called in to control the fires and the damage. There are also images of the destruction shown through footage and photographs.
