Synopsis by Rose of Sharon Winter
This program, hosted by Patrick O'Neal, is part of a series that chronicles some of the major battles that, in retrospect, were turning points in the course of World War II. This episode recounts the story of the air wars in Europe. The blitzkrieg took a tremendous toll on the lives and well being of British citizens. But England lived to fight another day in the costly air battles for control of the skies over Europe. American fighter planes and pilots were of inestimatable aid to European defenders of freedom. But freedom came at a terrible price. Archival film clips, photography, the personal recollections of veterans, and commentary by historians tell the story.
