Synopsis by Rose of Sharon Winter

World War II changed forever the face and fate of the world's lands and peoples. This four-volume set, narrated by Glenn Ford, relives some of the war's most important moments. The story is told through the remembrances of some well-known Americans, including Gerald Ford, Robert Dole, and William Manchester. This edition looks at how the war played out at home in America, while the war raged on in the Pacific, Africa, Russia, and Europe. In the States, those left behind served the cause in their own way. Women held jobs vacated by men serving in the military. Signs of solidarity appeared everywhere, from planting victory gardens to buying war bonds. Belts were tightened and gas was rationed to support the war effort. Personal accounts are illustrated by archival news clips and photographs.
