Synopsis by Mark Deming

A father and son both find themselves dealing with tricky romantic dilemmas in this drama from filmmaker Woo Ming Jin. Ah Kau is a fisherman who lives with his teenage son, Ah Fei, who supports himself by catching frogs. Ah Kau is single, and as he grows older he's become more aware of his regrets about his past. One such regret is a woman he loved when he was young but would not marry; having found her in a nearby village, he's begun courting her, hoping for another chance at the happiness he missed. Meanwhile, Ah Fei has fallen in love with a girl who has a boyfriend, and she tells Ah Fei she'd consider leaving her beau if he made more money. Hoping to please her, Ah Fei takes a job in a factory; his commitment pleases his boss, but Ah Fei finds this only adds to his problem when his boss wants to fix him up with his daughter. Woman on Fire Looks for Water was an official selection at the 2010 Rotterdam International Film Festival.
