This melodrama, an independently made states rights release, has an unusual story line, especially for the mid-'20s. A religious sect residing in the Tennessee mountains has been waiting for their prophet to show up. In preparation for his arrival, they've chosen five girls to be his wives, among them Judith (Alice Lake) and Alma (Violet Mersereau), who already has a sweetheart, Ben (Warner Richmond). Howard, a lawyer (Orville Caldwell), happens onto this group of people and accidentally witnesses their annual ritual. He sketches Judith and her likeness appears, tattoo-like, on his chest. This is a signal to the group's elders that Howard is their prophet, and they grandly bestow the five maidens on him. Howard, however, just wants one -- Judith -- and is dismayed to find out that if he were to disobey the group's edicts, he would face death. Fortunately, Howard has won Judith's heart, so they are able to escape together and head for some semblance of normalcy.
